🎙️ This Is Us: Stronger, Not Louder

Episode 6 – We Are Stronger Together

“True power isn’t volume. It’s vision shared.”

🎧 Opening Reflection

In a world where noise often overshadows nuance, it's easy to equate loudness with strength. But real power doesn't always announce itself with a shout. Sometimes, it whispers through collective action, deliberate processes, and shared visions.

Consider the story of Decidim in Barcelona—a testament to the strength found in cooperative civic engagement.

🏛️ Decidim: Democracy in Action

In 2016, Barcelona introduced Decidim (Catalan for "We Decide"), a digital platform designed to enhance participatory democracy. This initiative allowed citizens to propose, debate, and vote on municipal policies, including the allocation of up to €75 million of the city's budget between 2020 and 2023 .ids.ac.uk+2participedia.net+2en.wikipedia.org+2

The platform's impact was profound: over 10,000 proposals were submitted, with more than 160,000 votes cast. Approximately 71% of these citizen proposals were accepted and integrated into the city's Municipal Action Plan .cooperativecity.org+2docs.decidim.org+2participatorybudgeting.org+2

Decidim exemplifies how structured, inclusive, and transparent processes can empower communities, demonstrating that strength lies not in dominance, but in collaboration.

🧭 The Essence of Quiet Strength

True strength is often found in the willingness to listen, to collaborate, and to build together. It's in the patience to deliberate, the courage to compromise, and the commitment to collective well-being.

Platforms like Decidim remind us that when communities come together with shared purpose, they can enact meaningful change without the need for grandstanding or confrontation.

🌉 Building Bridges Through Cooperation

As we reflect on the lessons from Decidim, we’re reminded that the path to a stronger society is paved not with spectacle—but with empathy, transparency, and mutual respect.

And here’s the good news:
We don’t have to look to Barcelona alone.

We’re building our own bridges.
At this-is-us.org, and soon again at u-pac.org, we’re designing platforms for quiet strength.

Places where:

  • Citizens can submit concerns and track responses.

  • Events, forums, and digital town halls replace political theater with civic clarity.

  • Tools like the Six Second Sandbox help us pause before we divide.

  • The Integrity Project holds public figures accountable—not through volume, but through values.

These sites aren’t campaigns.
They’re commitments.

They’re not finished.
But neither is democracy.

🎧 Closing Thought

True power isn’t volume. It’s vision shared.

And in a world hungry for authenticity, the strongest voice may be the one that says simply:

“I’m here to serve.”

In Episode 7, we’ll bring this all home—what we’ve learned, what’s rising, and where we go from here.

Until then, thank you for believing in something bigger than outrage.
For showing up with clarity.
And for proving that cooperation—not domination—is the future.

This is us. Still building. Still believing. Still stronger together.
